QR Codes for Real Estate Listings and Open Houses

A buyer driving past a yard sign has no way to see the interior, price, or floor plan without calling the agent. A QR code on the sign sends them straight to the full listing from their phone, in the moment they're actually interested.

Where QR codes work best in real estate

Yard signs

Someone walking or driving by scans the code and sees photos, price, and square footage immediately, without waiting for office hours or leaving a voicemail.

Open house flyers and sign-in sheets

Replace a paper sign-in sheet with a code linking to a digital form. You capture contact details without visitors handwriting an email address that turns out to be unreadable.

Listing sheets and brochures

A printed sheet left at the property can only show a handful of photos. A code linking to the full online listing gives access to the complete photo set, floor plan, and virtual tour.

What to link to

Match the destination to where the code is seen:

  • ▸Full listing page — your own site or the MLS listing, for yard signs and flyers where the goal is showing the property.
  • ▸Contact card (vCard) — on your own business materials, so interested buyers save your phone and email directly without a follow-up text asking for it.
  • ▸WhatsApp — a code that opens a pre-filled WhatsApp message ("I'm interested in [address]") removes the step of the buyer finding your number and typing a message from scratch.

Sizing for outdoor signs

Yard signs are scanned from further away than a business card, usually 1–3 meters, often from a moving car. This changes the sizing math:

  • ▸Minimum 10cm square for a sign read at arm's length; larger (15–20cm) if you expect scans from a car window.
  • ▸High contrast is non-negotiable outdoors — direct sunlight and glare make low-contrast codes fail. Dark modules on a plain white background, no gradients.
  • ▸Laminate or use weatherproof material. Rain-damaged or faded signs are the most common reason an outdoor QR stops scanning.

A rough rule for scan distance: the code should be about 1/10th the distance it needs to be read from. A code meant to scan from 2 meters away should be at least 20cm square.

Creating your listing QR code with oh my qr

Select URL for the listing page or Contact (vCard) for your own agent details. Download as SVG so the sign printer can scale it to any size without losing quality. A PNG stretched to sign size will blur and may stop scanning.
